Focus of the project: Design an eye-tracking mobile application for Android devices
My role: Leading the product design end-to-end in a tight deadline (1 month)
Success criteria: High eye gaze accuracy and usability of the application
Vision Project is a predictive eye-tracking application with a mission to understand how people browse the web. Participants opt-in and earn cash for taking part in anonymous user research sessions where they simply read the news or watch videos. Initially, it was only available on iOS and Desktop, so it had to be designed for Android.
There was a very tight deadline of 1 month to design an Android application, so I had to work to compromise on some steps of the usual UX process. The approach to design was to create something simple to develop and in alignment with the company branding.
Design process:
The design process consisted of the following steps:
-Kick-off meeting with the product manager 🦵
-Wireframes
-Usability testing 🔬
-Content review
-High-fidelity designs 👩‍🎨
-Edge case scenarios
Wireframes:
Due to the tight deadline wireframe stage was not a conventional black and white stage. To save time I used the components from the design system which I co-created to quickly mock the main screens and get the feedback from product manager and engineering team as soon as possible.

Usability testing:
Usability testing was conducted with the employees of the company as at the time there was no budget nor time for usability testing with external users.
Highlights from the testing:
- The onboarding process was tedious because of the number of screens and permissions required
- The instructions for the study were not clear
- Users didn't know that they had to be on a very strong internet connection to successfully complete the study

Outcome and learnings:
Sometimes the timeframes for the projects can be crazy, but it's important to understand business needs and be flexible. A lot of steps from the usual design process had to be dropped for this project, but I was able to deliver the design on time.
